According to APK statement, the annual expo to be held at the Parade Square (Padang Kawad) UMS aimed to encourage UMS students to create new and innovative ideas inspired from their surroundings and generate innovations in the development of every life.

The expo was also a special activity in the Fundamentals of Entrepreneurial Acculturation Course, Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language (PPIB) that delivers entrepreneurial knowledge to students in line with the First Shift of the Malaysian Education Development (Higher Education) Blueprint, which is to produce holistic graduates equipped with entrepreneurship and balanced personality.

The statement also added, the four-day expo will see more than 140 stalls selling goods created through the inspiration and innovation of UMS students, including food, drinks, games, clothing and services.

Meanwhile, various activities are also available to visitors, among them are games with great prizes and lucky draws for those who make purchases of over RM150.00.

According to the statement, this year the expo will be joined by two large celebrations in the university, Kaamatan Carnival in conjunction with Kaamatan Festival and Tiong Hwa Festival, thus promising excitement and foster greater harmony among the various races in the country through their shows and cultural exhibition held simultaneously.

WEDNESDAY, 27 APRIL - 麻豆视频 (UMS) continues to provide exposure to entrepreneurship and business t o its students.

UMS through the Faculty of Business, Economy and Accounting (FPEP) once again took this approach  by organising a charity 鈥楥ar Boot Sale鈥� at their parking area.

Programme coordinator, Dr. Mohd. Rahimie Abd Karim said, the programme was a platform for training and strengthened the students鈥� skills especially in business.

鈥淪tudents are also exposed to effective communication techniques through two-way communication with their customers who come to buy their goods,鈥� he told media at the programme.

He said the programme also involved outsiders, besides opening up opportunities to UMS staff to participate in the event.

鈥淲e are very pleased with the response received, not only among students but also from outsiders and UMS staff itself.

鈥淚 hope that this kind of engagement will continue in similar events in the future,鈥� said Dr. Rahimie who is also the Deputy Dean (Student Welfare), UMS Centre for Postgraduate Studies.

Part of the rental for the lots went to the Single Mothers Association Sabah (PITSA).

Meanwhile, PITSA President, Norhanida Annol welcomed the move and was grateful for the initiative undertaken by FPEP UMS.

She said, such programme was timely in educating students to reach out to the community thus strengthening relationship between UMS and the community.

鈥淭his is also a good exposure for the students to experience the relationship with the public for their future use.

TUESDAY, 26 APRIL 鈥� The Student Affairs Department (HEP) 麻豆视频 (UMS) through its Culture and Arts Division recently organised an Inter College Performing Arts Competition (PPSUMS) for the 1Malaysia Category at Anjung Siswa.

The 1Malaysia Dance Competition was participated by five residential colleges; Excellent Residential College, Tun Fuad Residential College, UMS Labuan International Campus (KAL) Residential College, Sri Angkasa Residential College and Tun Mustapha Residential College.

A Nasyid Singing Competition was also held at UMSKAL and was participated by two dance troupes from UMSKAL, a group each from Excellent Residential College, Tun Fuad, Tun Mustapha and USIA 1Borneo.

Results of the two competitions saw that Tun Mustapha Residential College emerged champion for both competitions.

Second place for the 1Malaysia Dance Competition was won by Excellent Residential College, whilst Tun Fuad Residential College was third.

For the Nasyid Singing Competition, Residential College Tun Fuad captured and second place and UMSKAL the third placing.

Meanwhile, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Associate Professor Dr. Ismail Ali said, the objective of the competition was to increase innovation and productivity through quality work by UMS students.

鈥淭his programme will become an annual event as an effort to discover talents among students, and progress to a higher level,鈥� he said.

He also presented prizes to the winners and said that the programme would be organised again in May for 鈥榣agu asli鈥� and theatre, with each held at UMS Sandakan Campus and Dewan Resital main campus respectively.
