Dear Prof.Dr./Assoc.Prof./Dr./Sir/Mrs/Ms.,
I hope this email finds you well.
We are pleased to announce that we are planning to publish an edited book titledRESEARCH ETHICS FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES IN MALAYSIA: PERSPECTIVES AND EXPERIENCES OF PRACTITIONERS. Therefore, we warmly invite you to contribute a chapter for this proposed book. We are accepting papers that discuss an array of themes within research ethics in Social Sciences and other relevant fields such as:
  • Framework, formalities, and procedures with ethical review processes and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), especially with foreign host institutions or foreign countries
  • Researching sensitive research
  • Best practices in ethics of research including concerns such as;
    • Informed consent
    • Anonymity
    • Confidentiality
    • Integrity and impartiality
  • Fieldwork observation in Malaysia and/or abroad
  • Data privacy, data management, and security
  • Conflicts of interest in research
  • Covert research (covert data gathering)
  • Ethical issues in emerging technologies (AI)
  • Diversity of methods of research and its ethical consideration
  • Gatekeepers in research
  • Cross-cultural considerations in conducting research
  • Issues of retraction and redaction due to ethical breach
  • Anticipated risks or other ethical problems
  • Research with elite participants and non-vulnerable groups
  • Researchwith vulnerable groups such as;
    • Minor under 18 years old
    • Those with learning disabilities
    • Those who are severely ill or have a terminal illness
    • Those with mental illness (particularly if the person has been diagnosed by a certified medical practitioner)
    • Those in emergency situations
    • Recently bereaved
    • Those unable to consent to or understand the research
    • Covert research informants
    • Prisoners, young offenders, former detainees
    • Other vulnerable groups such as stateless persons, refugees, and migrant communities
Important dates: Submission by authors:30th July 2025
Special Note: Submission from authors who wish to submit papers based on their comparative research experience from foreign universities (i.e. outside Malaysia) are most welcome. Authors affiliated with research bodies other than universities are also encouraged to submit their papers for consideration.

This seminar is meticulously designed to address the intricate challenges posed by non-traumatic acute abdominal cases.
