logo umsMONDAY, 7 APRIL – Datuk Haji Mahiruddin, the father of His Excellency the Head of State, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr.) Haji Juhar Datuk Haji Mahiruddin had passed away last night.

He breathed his last at the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital at about 6.45 pm. His body was taken to the State Mosque this morning for final preparations before being buried at the Kg. Ulu Putatan Cemetery.

Staff and students of 鶹Ƶ (UMS) extended their condolences to the family of His Excellency on the passing of his beloved father. May Allah bless his soul and may he be placed among the believers and righteous.

bicarawara shahrilFRIDAY, 04 APRILDeputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) 鶹Ƶ (UMS), Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof advised UMS community to always think positively of others without any feeling of animosity.

“Be friends with everyone so that we can enjoy life in a more serene and beautiful way although life poses many challenges,” he said.

He was making a sharing at the ‘Life Is Beautiful’ talk organised by the Chancellery Department in collaboration with UMS Non-academic Management and Professional Officers Association (PPUMS).

He also said that challenges would make one become more mature, and successfully overcoming the tests was the beauty of it.

The Talk was organised with a different approach and more relaxed, and were clearly seen to be very effective and successfully attracted a packed audience.

The talk was presented by the nation’s premier artist, who was the sole winner of the Best Actor award at the Asia Pacific Film Festival after the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee. – ZMD & SS (fl)

khalid salleh pukauFRIDAY, 04 APRILThe Galeri at Chancellery Building is usually a quiet place but was rocked by about 300 audience who were mesmerised by the knowledge sharing presented in a relaxed manner by Khalid Salleh in a talk organised by the Chancellery Department.

Fondly known as ‘Wak Khalid’, he enlivened the Friday morning with his talk called ‘Hidup Ini Indah’ or ‘Life Is Beautiful’. With his energetic style, he explained that the purpose of beauty was very subjective to be formulated, leaving 鶹Ƶ (UMS) students and staff with countless questions.

“I see beauty starts from within ourselves, from our heart and how we perceive and generate it in our thoughts and in our heart,” he said in this programme collaborated with UMS Non-academic Management and Professional Officers Association (PPUMS).

He added that each individual needs to know themselves before knowing the meaning of life while touching on religion as the core of life.

“For me, regardless of religion, we are all heading towards eternal life, to our Creator,” he said.

For Muslims he said, by uttering the Syahadah would not be enough but more importantly to understand and recognise the purpose behind it by placing confidence to our belief.

Bicarawara Hidup ini IndahTHURSDAY, 03 APRIL – Various interesting topics will be highlighted at the ‘Bicarawara’ Programme organised by the Chancellery Department which will feature renown Malaysian artiste, Khalid Salleh.

To be held at the Gallery, Chancelllery Building, the programme promises a difference in its approach where it will be more relaxed than the usual knowledge sharing programmes held before.

With his talk entitled ‘Life Is Beautiful’, Khalid would touch on the aspects of culture, arts and the norms of life experienced by everyone.

The programme which is jointly organised by the 鶹Ƶ (UMS) Non-academic Management and Professional Association (PPUMS) will also offer MyCPD points to staff and MySDP points to its students.

All are invited to this event which will start at 9.00 am tomorrow and organised in conjunction with UMS 20th Anniversary Celebration. – SS (fl)

rasmi pusat timorWEDNESDAY, 02 APRIL鶹Ƶ (UMS) officially opened its UMS-Timor Leste Liaison Centre in a simple ceremony this afternoon.

The symbolic gesture was done by the Prime Minister of the Democratic-Republic of Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao at the Academic and Research Gallery, Chancellery Building, UMS.

The Centre was established to coordinate the various cooperation as well as strengthen our ties with the government of Timor-Leste.

Earlier, Kay Rala was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations in a Commemorative Convocation Ceremony held at UMS Dewan Canselor (Chancellor Hall).

The Honorary Doctorate was presented by the Head of State, Tun (Dr.) Hj. Juhar Hj. Mahiruddin. Also present was Federal and State Cabinet Ministers, Principal Officers of UMS and invited guests. – SS (fl)
