TUESDAY, 15 APRIL – The Student Welfare Committee Sports and Recreation Exco, Residential College Anugerah Bestari (Kolej AB) Session 2013/2014 will be holding a sporting activity themed ‘Futsal Semarak Piala Dunia’ 2014 for two days beginning 19 April.

According to a statement released by JAKMAS AB, the programme adopted the concept of ‘Charity Through Futsal’ and will channel the proceeds of the donations and sponsorship of several sponsors to the Rumah Anak Kesayangan (Nur Muhammad), Sembulan.

The statement added that the game will be participated by students from private colleges such as Ascot Academy Kota Kinabalu and Sabah 鶹Ƶ College in addition to participation among UMS students.

A voting session for playing teams will be conducted on 17 April 2014 (Thursday) at the AB Multipurpose Hall where each team will select the countries competing in the World Cup 2014
.
The closing ceremony will be officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr. Hj. Kasim Hj. Md Mansur at Likas Sports Complex.

The ‘Futsal Semarak Piala Dunia’ 2014 is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and a number of private bodies such as the Sabah International Dairies, Raisul Trading and QL Marine Products. – ZMD (fl)

semega MPPTUESDAY, 15 APRIL A caring attitude in providing community service continues to be the practice of 鶹Ƶ (UMS) in disseminating knowledge to the local community.

Recently, through a combination of collaborations among the Student Representatives Council (MPP), FELDA Students Collaboration (PERSADA UMS), and the Publicity Department (FELDA) Sabah held a knowledge sharing programme ‘Selangkah Ke Menara Gading’ (SEMEGA) in nine secondary schools in Tawau.

According to the President of MPP, Fandyi Sanizan Jurup; the two-day programme was aimed at creating awareness among local youths to study hard and enter into higher learning institutions especially UMS.

“This is a motivational programme providing a glimpse into campus life through a video presentation which portrays the challenges and excitement of being an undergraduate.

“The motivational programme was presented by the students of UMS itself which is seen to eliminate the perception that life is difficult in the university with multiple pressures,” he told reporters.

Pesta CahayaMONDAY, 14 APRILSome of the proceeds from the sales of the tickets to the ‘Fiesta Cahaya’ 2014 or Festival of Lights will be distributed to charity homes around Kota Kinabalu.

This was mentioned by the project, Kuhan Raj who told Media Chancellery in 鶹Ƶ (UMS) today.

He said about 4,000 targeted visitors were expected to attend the fiesta on 26 April 2014.

“This event will bring together undergraduates from colleges, universities and the public and private institutions in Sabah with tickets priced as low as RM6.00 for students and RM10.00 for the public,” he added.

This annual event organised by the Art, Culture and Indian Heritage Secretariat of the Arts and Culture Department, Student Representatives Council (MPP) among others was aimed at disseminating culture and tradition of the Indians to the local community, particularly in Sabah.

Located at Dewan Canselor (Chancellor Hall) UMS, the programme is expected to be officiated by the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

This 11th edition of Fiesta Cahaya will feature various Indian dances, including from the ethnics of Tamil, Hindustani, Telegu, Kadhakali, Malayalam and Rajasthani. – ZMD (fl)

KESUMBA latihanMONDAY, 14 APRILThe Housewives and Women Staff Club (KESUMBA) of 鶹Ƶ (UMS) is actively coordinating various activities.

According to KESUMBA Bureau of Communications and Information, Nurul Izza Nordin; a friendly match between UMS and the Navy Family Welfare Body (BAKAT Laut) will be held at the Royal Malaysian Naval Base (TLDM) Sepanggar on 19 April.

Speaking in a statement, she said that the friendly match was a continuation to the courtesy call made recently in March.

It is also to foster bilateral relationship between KESUMBA and BAKAT Laut besides promoting closer rapport between clubs.

“The training has been done since early April. A total of 50 KESUMBA members are committed in their trainings to ensure a stiff competition to the BAKAT Laut team,” she said in the statement.

A total of four events will be contested namely netball, volleyball, futsal and deck hockey. The team will be headed by KESUMBA Chief Bureau of Sports, Social and Recreation; Dr. Dayang Maryama Ag. Daud. – SS (fl)

jom masuk uSATURDAY, 12 APRIL- More than 10,000 people thronged the 10thedition of the Higher Education Carnival "Jom Masuk U" organised by the Ministry of Education Malaysia which started today.Thousands of secondary school students including their parents and teachers visited the 50 booths occupied by all the public and private higher learning institutions in the country set up for this event.

This is an outreach programme of the Education Ministry which made its debut in 2005 and has since become their signature programme.

The carnival was organised to provide higher education information under one roof for the benefit of the public especially secondary school students.

Media Chancellery UMS had the chance to speak to some visitors; among them was Devonnie Marcilluslee, 18, who just received her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) result.Devonnie who studied at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Likas took the chance to sign up for a culinary course at the carnival.She came to know about the carnival through her friends who spread the news through social media.

Another student, Jeffrey Jumenik, 17, learned about the carnival through flyers given in his school, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Berampah, Sipitang, Sabah.Jeffrey who is the Chairman of the Bahasa Malaysia Club in his school and also a member of the Peer Programme called 'Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya' hopes to further his studies to Matriculation and aspires to be a policeman in future.When asked about their transport to Kota Kinabalu, he explained that they had hired a van to ferry their group from Sipitang to 1Borneo Hyper mall where the carnival is held.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Md Mansur also made a round at the carnival. -FL
