THURSDAY, 26 MAY 鈥� UMS Investment Holdings Sdn Bhd (UiNVEST) has signed a memorandum of agreement with Professional and Management College (KLIA College) at the Gallery, Chancellery Building, today.

This agreement would enhance cooperation between the two parties in the field of development capability and development ability to support the education sector more dynamically.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Board of UiNVEST, Datuk Awang Buhtamam Awang Mahmun said, the memorandum of agreement acted as a platform to promote UMS Degree programmes (by Coursework) in Kuala Lumpur and made KLIA College as UMS Centre for External Education (PLUMS).

鈥淭his would be the main focus of graduates as well as those with careers who want to pursue their studies to a higher level by offering a Master of Business Administration Programme (MBA) and Master of Human Capital Management (MHCM) in Kuala Lumpur.

鈥淭his agreement also outlines the responsibilities of both parties to ensure the programmes offered are in accordance with the education rules set by the university,鈥� he explained.

With the signing of the memorandum of agreement, it would strengthen cooperation between the two sides and share their expertise through academic and research, as well as producing quality human capital resource to support sustainable development.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah said, the event was held as a mark of appreciation and their spirit in celebrating the achievements of university students who had made many contributions and made a name for UMS besides helping with other activities in the university.

鈥淪uch event helps to boost the spirit of our students to work harder to increase their contributions and achievements at national level and international level,鈥� he said in his speech during the ceremony.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching at the Grand Ballroom, The Klagan Regency, 1Borneo.

A total of 13 awards were up for grabs, there were six awards for team category, and seven awards for individual category, which was presented by Datuk Harun and Datuk Mary Yap, respectively.

Residential College E received three categories at the event, namely Best JAKMAS, Best Award for Arts and Culture, and Best Residential College Head was won by Nurul Syazwani Mohamad Ghaazali, the Head of JAKMAS Residential College E.

WEDNESDAY, 25 MAY 鈥� The Cultural and Arts Division, Department of Student Affairs (HEP) has successfully held the Intercollege Competition at Kota Kinabalu main campus, Labuan International Campus and Sandakan Campus.

According to the Chairman of Culture and Arts Division HEP, Alan James, the programme aimed to identify talented students who would represent the university at a higher level.

鈥淭he competition was conducted in four categories; 1Malaysia Dance, Theatre, Nasyid and Lagu Asli, and the programme is expected to become an annual event of the university,鈥� he said.

At the end of the Intercollege Competition held at the Faculty of Agriculture (FPL), Sandakan Campus recently saw 10 participants from each residential colleges competed in the Lagu Asli category.

The competition was won by a participant from Tun Fuad Residential College, Afiq Fauzi, bringing home cash prize, trophy and certificate.

Participants from Tun Fuad Residential College, Nur Farah Ain Donian and Tun Mustapha Residential College, Nor Amanina Karman won the second and third placing, respectively.

The prizes were presented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Associate Professor Dr. Ismail Ali.

WEDNESDAY, 25 MAY 鈥� 麻豆视频 (UMS) through its Faculty of Science and Natural Resources (FSSA) celebrated  World Forestry Day (HPS) at the university in an effort to instill awareness among campus community on the importance of maintaining forest areas in Sabah.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic and International UMS, Professor Dr. D Kamarudin D Mudin said, the awareness to protect and preserve this forest was translated globally through the World Forestry Day and World Environment Day  celebrated every year.

鈥淲e want these two important days be celebrated in a grand scale so that the spirit of caring for our forest be nurtured amongst the community especially the younger generation who are still in school,鈥� he said representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah during the HPS Day celebration held at the Forestry Complex Ground, FSSA UMS.

According to him, various programmes and activities related to the caring, protecting, preserving and conservation of our forests and the environment such as planting trees and forests should be intensified and made as the main activity each year.

Various events in conjunction with the celebration were organised including Forest Run, tree planting, exhibition and forest research innovation as well as talks relating to the field of forestry were planned and participated by several secondary school students. 鈥� MA (fl)
