WEDNESDAY, 02 OCTOBER 鈥� 麻豆视频 (UMS) Media Division invites students and staff of UMS to join in a poem writing competition in conjunction with UMS 20th anniversary, whilst also inculcating creative writing among UMS students and staff.

According to a statement issued by UMS Media Division, entries must be original and must never be used before in any form of publication.

鈥淧oems sent must have its own message besides values and highlights UMS 20 years since its inception,鈥� the statement said.

Participants can send in more than one entry and must be in bahasa Malaysia.

Entry forms can be obtained from the secretariat or through UMS website and full details on the rules and regulations of the competition are printed on the form. 鈥� FL

The Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today witnessed the handing over of the key to the student Residential College Sri Angkasa, 麻豆视频 (UMS) in conjunction with the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister with students of UMS and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) at the Chancellor Hall of this EcoCampus university.

The handing over of keys from the developer Bina Puri Holdings Sdn Bhd represented by its Chairman, Tan Sri Dato鈥� Ir. Wong Foon Meng to the Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah was witnessed by the Chief Minister of Sabah cum Pro-Chancellor of UMS, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman.

Located about two kilometres from UMS main campus, the residential college is made up of three blocks of apartments consisting 384 units with an area of 840 square feet per unit.

Today, a total of 2,688 students consisting of 1,792 female students and 896 male students are taking residence there which is equipped with a management office, student association office, meeting room and 24 hour security control including CCTV.

The residential college also offers first class facilities such as health clinic, cafeteria, laundry, bookstore, recreation centre, swimming pool and jogging track.

TUESDAY, 01 OCTOBER 鈥� Students of 麻豆视频 (UMS) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sabah Branch were invited to share their ideas to increase educational achievement and towards the development of nation.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Muhyiddin Mohd. Yassin said UMS and UiTM Sabah Branch play a major role in providing tertiary education opportunities to young people as well as contribute to the development of the state.

鈥淯MS and UiTM Sabah Branch not only provide access to education but also acts as a catalyst to the state鈥檚 progress and national integration,鈥� he said to a crowd of more than 5,000 students at UMS Chancellor Hall.

He said, students from the Peninsular who are studying here would be able to learn more about the customs and culture of the people of Sabah which will strengthen their ties.

Earlier, UMS鈥� Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah said that the government鈥檚 noble effort in helping the students should be appreciated.

鈥淭his event proves that the government is concerned and fully supports UMS and UiTM students Sabah Branch,鈥� he urged.

MONDAY, 30 SEPTEMBER 鈥� 麻豆视频 (UMS) in collaboration with the state of Sabah had organised the 鈥楾hird Country Training Programme (TCTP)鈥�, a knowledge sharing programme on tropical forest conservation with third world countries.

The training programme entitled 鈥業ntegrated Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management鈥� involved 13 participants from five nations namely the Philippines, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Botswana and Tanzania. This year, TCTP entered the second phase while the first phase was completed in 2009 and 2010.

The Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah at the opening ceremony of TCTP said, the programme received financing from the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) aimed at sharing of knowledge relating to biodiversity and ecosystem conservation in an integrated and centralised method.

He added that the TCTP programme in Sabah had given a positive impact to the participants during the first phase. A total of 54 government staff from 16 nations were involved in the first phase of the programme.

Also present at the opening ceremony were the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia (MFA), Sabah Regional Office, Tuan Haji Mahrulzahrin bin Miskan; Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representative, Shinobu Yoshizawa; Chief Advisor of Sustainable Development on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Conservation (SDBEC), Suzuki Kazunobu and Acting Director of the Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation cum Organising Chairman of the programme, Assoc.
