THURSDAY, 28 MAY 鈥� The Association of Psychology, Education and Sports Science Students (PERMAPPS) 麻豆视频 (UMS) recently organised the programme 鈥楲ambaian Menara Gading鈥� at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Beaufort 3.
According to Programme Director, Dayang Norlisa Datu Harun, the two-day motivational programme was participated by 95 students of Form one to Five of the said school.
鈥淲e share the importance of education and learning experience in UMS with the students of the school and hope that the sharing would push them to further their education,鈥� she said when met by media.
Earlier when opening the programme, the Principal of SMK Beaufort 3, Roslinah Suhailin said she hoped the collaboration between UMS and the school on motivational programmes would continue.
鈥淭his programme is very useful and inspires school students to further their education up to tertiary level,鈥� she said.

THURSDAY, 28 MAY 鈥� The involvement of students in the Co-curriculum Carnival would shape them into individuals with a winning personality.
Deputy Director of 麻豆视频 (UMS), Labuan International Campus (KAL), Associate Professor Dr. Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal said, this is in line with the national higher education policies to produce Malaysians who are balanced and harmonious intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically.
He said the country鈥檚 goal is to create graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also competent, virtuous, responsible and the prosperity of the nation would be achieved through the implementation of the Co-Curriculum Carnival and indirectly creating and provide to the demands of current job market.
鈥淭hrough this activity, I believe students will be able to observe, appreciate, analyse and solve problems through an approach that is more appropriate and reasonable in this challenging world. The learning process will make them more rational about some episodes in their lives besides making them students who are dynamic and credible,鈥� he said.

WEDNESDAY, 27 MAY 鈥� 鈥淎ppreciate what you have, don鈥檛 ever let it go, because the moment you let go, others are crying for it, strive while you are still given the opportunity.鈥�These touching words are from Rohany Gabi, a student of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage 麻豆视频 (UMS) who suffered from bone cancer stage four for almost 10 years.
She advised students to take advantage of their health by undertaking beneficial activities such as studying and avoid wasteful activities.
鈥淔rankly speaking, I feel sad when people who have everything, with their parents around, and who have healthy body, do not appreciate these 鈥榩erfection鈥�,鈥� he added.
Born in Keningau, she was diagnosed to have Bone Cancer stage four when she was only 12 years old.
Doctors placed no hope on her, but she still continued to undergo surgery and removed 26 cm of her femur and also underwent 10 rounds of chemotherapy treatments.
While suffering from the illness, she also faced various distressing episodes including the death of her father who was involved in an accident at work when she was 14 years old.
By the time her cancer had spread to her lungs, she experienced another death in the family, her elder brother.
Often ridiculed and side-lined by her peers in school, all these never stop Rohany in remaining positive in facing this dreaded illness.
鈥淚 thank God for all the miracles He has given me; in 2013, doctors confirmed that the cancer cells in my lungs had all gone and that I am completely free from having bone cancer,鈥� she said, who also underwent more than 10 operations during the duration of her treatment. 鈥� SS (fl)

WEDNESDAY, 27 MAY 鈥� 麻豆视频 (UMS) is honoured to have its Sports Science lecturer from the Faculty of Psychology and Education, Dr. Mohamad Nizam Nazarudin selected as an Assessor for the World Rugby Referee Coaching Course Level 2, recently.Dr. Nizam said the course which was held in Hong Kong saw him being given the task in evaluating referees from Singapore and two assistant referees from Japan.
鈥淭he evaluation session took place when they were refereeing a match between Hong Kong and South Korea,鈥� he said in a statement to UMS media.
Dr. Nizam is currently the President of the Rugby Referee Association Sabah and Vice President of the Rugby Association Kota Kinabalu.
Among his impressive achievements are, being the only referee from Malaysia who achieved the highest level of rugby refereeing and an Educator for World Rugby that can conduct and issue referee certificates at international level. 鈥� SS (fl)

WEDNESDAY, 27 MAY 鈥� A total of 25 members under the Felda Undergrads Support Group (PERSADA) 麻豆视频 (UMS) recently organised the 鈥楽eerat Kasih, Semanis Senyuman鈥� at the Suria 麻豆视频 Home Tuaran.
According to PERSADA Advisor, Rohani Hadi, the programme was held to create awareness on the importance of social responsibility that should be taken, including by undergrads.
鈥淭his programme is to nurture community values among undergrads that would develop high self-esteem thus helping them to face the working world after graduation,鈥� she said when contacted by media.
A total of 52 children from the Suria 麻豆视频 Home aged between seven and 17 years also participated in activities such as English Battleship and telematch during the programme.
Rohani added that UMS would also assist residents of the Suria 麻豆视频 Home namely Aryati Jasni and Razimah Raji to make preparations in sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (Malaysian Education Certificate) (SPM) in November.
鈥淎 motivational session was also held during the programme for the Suria 麻豆视频 Home residents presented by the Head of Publicity for FELDA, Asmarah Rikun,鈥� she explained, who is also the Assistant Registrar at the Student Affairs Department.
Earlier, officials from Suria 麻豆视频, Nur Maleena Abdullah also expressed her gratitude for the visit from UMS PERSADA which she described as a support that can inspire the residents at the welfare home to further their studies at tertiary level. 鈥� ZMD (fl)
