Innovation Carnival

�鶹��Ƶ (UMS) Co-Curriculum and Student Development Centre (PKPP) introduced the Innovation Carnival starting on semester 1 2021 / 2022 session in an effort to foster a culture of invention among students. It is a new component of additional teaching and learning (PdP) for extra-credit co-curricular courses in line with sustainable lifestyles that require society to act proactively to produce realistic innovations in the present. The inaugural carnival are held online involving the three UMS campuses, namely the Kota Kinabalu Campus, Labuan International Campus and the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture, Sandakan.

“WASTE TO TREASURE”

The innovation produced by the students themed is wate to treasure. aims to foster the development of university students as leaders in in sustainability and environmental stewardship. By harnessing the power of innovation students have the opportunity to transform waste into treasure and shape a more sustainable tomorrow. Student innovation results will be judged by an experienced panel of evaluators and will be awarded Gold Awards, Silver Awards and Bronze Awards.

As a sign of encouragement to cultivate innovation, RM200 will be given as the main prize which is the Special Innovation Award of the PKPP Director, and quality inventions will be considered for competition at a higher level.

Language Usage

Each innovation can be sent in only two languages, namely Malay and English.

Participation

Each course must submit at least one entry or one entry for one course section.

Innovation Work Submission Guide

Please ensure that the poster and video adheres to the following guidelines

1. Clearly identifies the name of the co-curriculum course.

2. Includes relevant information in the poster/video such as:-

Introduction (why you must create this product?)
Repurposing waste material (describe your product: waste to treasure)
Impact and sustainability (refer innovation evaluation)
Commercial value (refer innovation evaluation)

Innovation Poster and Video Format

The format for innovation posters and videos must follow the specifications set by PKPP as below:-

Poster Format

1. Poster Size: A3 (11.69inch x16.53inch)

2. Limited to 1 page only.

3. The layout of the content in the poster is based on the students' creativity.

4. Posters are saved in jpg format with a maximum of 2MB.

Video Format

1. Duration 5-7 minutes.

2. Each project must submit only one (1) video recording for evaluation.

3.Video recordings should be uploaded to Youtube but should be made in "Unlisted" settings not in "Public" settings. So that the link can be opened and evaluated by a panel of judges only.

Co-Curriculum Carnival

Co-curriculum Carnival is the culmination of co-curricular learning that showcases learning outputs through hands-on performances, exhibitions or contests. At the end of each semester, the entire curriculum involves students from various components of community, leadership, culture and the arts, sports and recreation, technology and uniform such as PALAPES, SUKSIS and UMS-SEJATI. Co-curricular students are required to participate in this program as part of the final assessment (practical) of co-curricular learning. Through the carnival, the talents and potential of the students are evaluated by their trainers and university officials for the purpose of further excellence.

Soft Skill Centered Lectures

The Soft Skill UMS Centered Lectur is a compulsory college for students enrolling a 3-hour co-curriculum course. This lecture is aimed at complementing the policies and philosophies of the PKPP to produce balanced students from intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical aspects, to develop the students' physical, mental and spiritual endurance, to generate creative, innovative, proactive and proactive thinking and to instill confidence and contention within facing challenges. �鶹��Ƶ is also committed to producing students who are capable of mastering the diversity of technical and professional skills as well as knowledge and practical soft skills to complement the holistic UMS graduates' attributes. Through this workshop students will be able to learn and recognize the importance of applying soft skills to students.

Soft Skill UMS Sejati Workshop

The Soft Skill UMS Sejati Workshop is aimed at perfecting the policy and philosophy of the PKPP to produce students who are balanced from the intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical aspects of the students, to develop students' physical, mental and spiritual resilience, generate creative, innovative and proactive thinking and instill confidence in facing challenges. �鶹��Ƶ is also committed to producing students who can master the diversity of technical and professional skills knowledge as well as knowledge and practical soft skills to complement the attributes of the holistic graduates. Through this workshop students will be able to learn and recognize the importance of applying soft skills to students.

UMS-SPRINT Programme

The UMS-SPRINT programme, also known as UMS-SISWAPRIHATIN, is a community relations programme based on the need for soft skills development with a focus on the values of teamwork, leadership, and enhancing interaction and communication with local communities. This program is set up in the co-curriculum courses. This program will bring students to several places in the state of Sabah, especially in remote areas and villages.

Among the activities carried out are education motivation, cultural interaction, social program and human development as well as programmes that represent the community's concerns and contributions. The UMS-SPRINT programme is organized every semester involving Students who take co-curriculum subjects at the Kota Kinabalu Main Campus, Sandakan and Labuan International Campus. At the end of the programme, the participating students are required to prepare a project report and then present a presentation. The quality of the report and presentation being evaluated is part of the final assessment.
